This Spontoon Pipe Ax was reproduced from an original ax from a private collection. You will see some small pits in the ax, this is the way the ax was found and the mold was made directly from the original. Some people have tried to sell these as originals ,but we want you to know these are a Reproduction and a good one at that. This was not a working ax, but maybe a weapon for battle or a ceremonial presentation piece for Native Americans. The ax bowl was used for smoking and comes drilled with a small hole ,but the handle is not drilled. I have not had any luck in drilling the handles.
The ax is cast of 4140 steel. The overall length of the ax is 19", the head measures 8" from point to pipe, the thickest part of the head is 3" across, and it weighs around 1.5 pounds. The ax will come to you unsharpened as it is safer shipping the ax this way.
( Note: The handles are made of hard wood such as hickory, ash or maple. We have no control over which hardwood we receive from the handle company.)
