These are a new pair of brass shoe buckles. These were reproduced from an original pair of buckles. The buckles date mid 18th century. The sample was taken from one found in a well at Williamsburg. The buckle measures 2 1/2" x 1 7/8" and will accept a shoe strap of 1 1/4". This buckle would have been worn for court, church, or for any dress up occasion. Shoe buckles were a part of dress in the 18th century for men and women and would indicate if they had some wealth. These buckles are suitable for either gender.
