My personal opinion is, that this was not a working ax, but maybe a weapon for battle or a presentation piece for Native Americans. The French may have used this ax in the early days or used it for trading with the Native Americans I have used this ax for throwing at targets and does quite well. There are a couple of knock offs of this ax being sold using this one as there pattern , but have found them to be much heavier in weight.
The ax will come to you unsharpened as it is safer shipping the ax this way. We also stock extra handles for these ax's. The ax is cast of 4140 steel.
The overall length of the ax is 24", cutting edge is 3 1/2", and the width of the hawk from blade to handle is 5.5", it weighs around 1.5 pounds.
