These are a new pair of brass shoe buckles. These were reproduced from an original pair of buckles. The buckles date mid 18th century. The buckles are small and will work for a ladies shoe. They fit Fuqawee's Martha shoe perfectly. The buckle measures 2" x 1 1/2" and will accept a shoe strap of 1 1/8". This buckle would have been worn for court, church, or for any dress up occasion. Shoe buckles were a part of dress in the 18th century for men and women and would indicate if they had some wealth. These buckles are suitable for either gender . Circa 1775. Original was found with Bronze Ring with Silver Sheffield Plate.
