This tip is used for the bottom of a bayonet scabbard to prevent the bayonet from poking through the bottom of the scabbard. The tip was reproduced from an original tip. The tip measures 1 1/4" long 1/4" round. These were used in the 18th and 19th century. To install this on a scabbard we wet the leather and insert the tip, then we use linen thread and tightly wrap the thread around the leather. This pulls the leather tight up against the tip, as the leather dries it will shrink making the leather tighter against tip preventing the tip from moving out the bottom of the scabbard.
