This Hammer Pole Ax was made from an original 18th century ax. The ax is cast with 1020 steel and will hold a good edge. This ax is shown in many historical books and probably dates from the last quarter of the 18th century, but could be of an earlier date. I have show a close up photo of the ax head to show you the small pits in the head ax. The mold was made right from an original ax in a private collection. The ax was really not made for chopping wood, but most likely as a weapon or a show piece. The overall length of the handle is 22", the ax head measures 8" with the cutting edge measuring at 3". The ax blade is not sharpened, some re-enactors carry this for display only and prefer it this way. The blade can be sharpen by the customer. We have sold this ax for many years and is one of our most popular ax's used for displays or carried by re-enactors. I also want to mention that this ax is a reproduction and not an original. The ax you receive will have the handle stained or if you prefer to stain your own just let us know.

This Ax is made here in the U.S.A.
