This was used as a traveling fork & knife set. While traveling the set slides together and when your ready to eat pull them apart. The knife blade is not sharp, more like a butter knife edge. However you can sharpen the blade if you chose. Packs nicely in your haversack, light weight and dose not poke threw your haversack like a fork does while marching. There is one shown shown in The Encyclopedia of The American Revolution. The set is patterned off of one in our collection. The blades are made in a low grade Stainless Steel and the handle made of wood. The color of the wood handle may vary in color as each one is a little different. This set dates mid 18th century and will be suitable for your next 18th century dinner or reenactment. We had this set made exclusively for Smiling Fox Forge,LLC for people reenacting the French & Indian War and Revolutionary war, as we saw a need for a closer reproduction of a mid 18th century set of tableware. I would not suggest putting these in the dishwasher, hand wash only, like they did in the 18th century.
