Most women in the 18th century wore some type of cap whether they were working, shopping or going to a social event. There was a wide variety of caps worn and most were made in cotton or linen.
Some of the caps were plain and some very elaborate decorated with ribbons, some tied under the chin and some did not. This cap is of a higher quality of style worn in the 18th century. You can see this style of cap in many paintings along with many other styles. Some of you may ask if this is of French or English style. My own personal opinion is that they both seemed to copy from each other. So whomever you are portraying you should be acceptable in the French & Indian War and Rev War time period. Every class of women worn caps from the poorest to the richest, a bare head was seldom seen in the 18th century. This cap is made for the lady that would like to enhance her 18th century persona.
